Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel was the French fashion designer who launched the first designer suit in 1923.
The look was consisted of a collarless button-up boxy woolen cut.
The jacket often had a braid trim gold metallic buttons and fitted sleeves.
She paired her jackets with a well fitted knee length skirt.
In the 1960’s her fashions were no longer on the fore-front of style. The miniskirt
was the trend and Coco Chanel abhorred it. She felt a woman’s knees were always best
concealed. During a ten year time frame she had faithful clientele such as Jacqueline
Kennendy and Katharine Hepburn that showcased her designs.
Many things Chanel are still in high demand today. In 1955 Chanel introduced quited handbags with shoulder straps of leather plaited with gilt chains and flattened links. Her clothing, handbags and perfumes can still be found at many stores throughout the world.
